Has anyone (other than the former poster mentioned in the sub forum name) done rules accreditation?

How was it run? Is it through the clubs? Do Golf Victoria of the PGA run sessions in a shared environment?

I am a certification whore.

Bruce, I did one at Amstel a few years ago with around 20 odd members..

You needed to get 50 out of 60 correct to pass, two of us top scored with 49.

Pretty bad when you have the rule book with you for reference although, I did make some silly mistakes.

Did any of the officials cop a king hit in the dunny after the results were announced?

Judge, don't tell them you are Jewish or they will never let you officiate at Kingston Heath.

I did the Club Rules Accreditation about five years ago. After a club Rules evening at Trentham, I sat the exam at KewGC one night. In three hours, you had to get a minimum 40/50 answering multiple choice questions. I finished the exam under two hours, got two wrong.

It costs $16.50 to attend the Rules night and sit the exam, then you pay $12 per year to keep your accreditation and get an occasional Rules Newsletter with rule changes, VGA rulings, rules quizzes and latest decisions.

Pretty sure Jed is a paid up Rules Nazi as well. He might even be 1 level higher than Publish, but I'm not sure what that involves.

It would have been the same as Publish, 40 out of 50, 3 hours. I did it in about 1 1/2 hours but obviously needed to slow down a little......

There is only Club level and State level rules accreditation.

State Level involves a full-day workshop, a 100-question test (50 with the Rules book and 50 with the Decisions book), a real-time test on a golf course simulating 10 Rules situations, and 10 hours performing as a Rules official. You also need to have a hyphenated surname.

To keep the accreditation you have to earn 'points' (over 4 years) by officiating at events for a set number of hours.

It did it last year, as I was getting sick of weekends away being ruined by knowledgeless clowns, rabbiting on about some rule (or their misinterpretation of it).

Cost $23, which kept the trouble-makers away. (We still had an associate asking about a 5 club competition. angry.gif )
Three hours of power-point presentation, which was very good at conveying the various situtations and their differences. Also covered the exceptions and definitions in detail.
Sent home with course summary and sample questions.
Two weeks later, a 3 hour multiple choice open-book (Rules of Golf only) exam, 50/50.

Not many clubs hold these in Sydney, but I'd highly recommend doing it, if the opportunity arises.

Bruce it is a good thing to do. The lions share of people who play the game have very minimal understanding of the rules and I'd reckon at least 50-60% of club members don't carry a rule book in their bag which I can never understand.

I have officiated in a couple of club events after becoming club level qualified but have recently not paid my $12 and my accreditation has expired.

Jed,

I prefer the decisions book to the rule book, and carry both. Although I nhaven't referred to either for a long time.

Just call me Bruce S-A.

50/50 for the exam which is only to be expected with 3 hours and an open book.

The class was mostly trainees. There was a ranga in a Ranfurlie shirt and girl called Emma from Southern that other TGFers might know. A few annoying comittee ladies in the group too.

Not sure what I'll do with it, if anything, but it wasn't a waste of time and at only $16 I would even call it a worthwhile investment of time and effort.

How did he go Judge?

Reading upside down I saw a couple who left before me had failed.
Although Scotty was still going when I left.

Absolutely not - and to suggest that such a thing is possible is an insult not merely to the fine institution of the VGA, but to me personally.
