I'll cop the one I put in the dam - but that first one was rage inducing.

Bruce and Andigold would be a great Grudge Match for the Ned Kelly Trophy

What was the consensus among the group on the changes to 12 and 13?

Matty,

I was there back before Xmas. It was my first look at the course so I don't know what was there before. My recollection is a little hazy but here goes:

The new 12th is a flat hole of around 180m with a big mound on the left. It's a largish green. I think there was a trap on the right. On walking around the back of the old green I'd say it had more interest than the new one.

I assume the work done on 13 was to the green which is decent enough but not spectacular. The bottleneck in the fairway about 150m out is horrid. Unless you can bomb one down the right to give yourself a look at the green you're playing a short iron layup to a severe left to right slope, guaranteed to leave you in the rough.

I felt the 12th green was just a big flat circle. It certainly didn't seem to have the subtle internal contours that made the other greens fun and the fallaways around the green seemed a lot more severe than the other greens.

From what JJJ showed us, the new 13th tee looks lie it should achieve what they were after.

Most of the work at Gisborne has been an improvement. The new 12th green is pretty average. Big, round and flat it is devoid of interest. Just goes to show that inhouse work has it's limitations when it comes to building completely new holes/greens.

The love of a big mound short of the green is also a feature they could lose on the new holes. The mound short right of 4 detracts from the hole. Take it away and the hollow right is suddenly visible and the green would look far more intimidating from the tee. At present your eye is drawn only to the opening on the left. Remove the mound right and it would balance it out more and tempt people with that right hand pin and make the green appear to be on a peninsula. The mound short left of 12 is awful and looks totally out of place. Sadly it about the only feature on a very bland hole. The new 13th tee will improve the hole considerably denying people the opportunity to drive it thru down the hill.

36pts around National Ocean yesterday with a poor short game performance.

I think that bubble can be reinflated.

Maybe JJJ will take us down to play one of the proper courses there.

How did the boss go?

If he can take us before the deadline then that sounds great.

He played OK - but we pipped him and Mal by a point smile.gif

I will speak to him. I am looking forward to watching him run every putt over the edge of the hole with his new hand crafted putter like he has with all his other putters.

Maybe we can bring the boss. I'm sure JJJ will have pity on a bloke who has played the Ocean course on multiple occasions but none of the other courses.
