2-Dogs, They brought in some crappy sales incentive when I was there 10 years ago that if you clubfitted 5 people in a day, you got a sleeve of Pro V's.

Problem was that the Manager (total sales Knob Jockey as well) would see me taking someone down the back for a club fit, and he'd cut my lunch (tell me to get on the register or something, as I was a casual employee and he had more 'expertise' in club fitting).

It was amazing how 2 or 3 times a week I could do 5 'club fits' in knob jockey's 1 hour lunch break. Pretty sure I stuck a few of the people on this site in the computer.

Hi Elizabeth,

So given your inside knowledge, I need to replace my 3 month old Taylormade 4 Hybrid Rescue, which I either lost or somebody "borrowed it", (ouch !!!!) where would be a good place to aquire a new one ?

I don't trust ebay ( too many stories about dodgy clubs), my local club does not sell clubs, and to go to club fitter for just one club just doesn't quite feel right.

Thanks Steve (Leongatha)

SteveH72.

You know what you want, you know what price you are willing to pay. Seems to me you walk into a golf store holding all the cards.

Steve,

Ebay is fine if you go to a reputable store. It costs about $50 to get a club or two sent out from the states and is often a lot cheaper.

try rockbottomgolf.com or 3balls.com and go to their ebay store.. Will get your club in under 5 days too. Some other people might know a few other good sites too

steveh72,

ebay is by far the cheapest option. As others have said, you will do alright by sticking to a reputable seller. If you are unsure about an item's authenticity, post a link here and we should be able to set you straight.

PS: I am playing at Leongatha on Monday. Hope the track is in good shape.

A big thanks to all.

I will give ebay a go ( I have to wait to pay day though).

and yes L'gtha track is in excellent condition.

some of the tees are a bit scratchy, but the fairways are excellent ( just as good as SV during Vic Open) and greens maybe on the slow side for Monday as they will not be cut until Tuesday I think ??

Lets keep it to Drummonds - let sleeping dogs lie.

I reckon some of the other golf stores (House of Golf, Golf World) would be the same if not worse with this stuff ... so I don't think I am slandering anyone by what I have said.

Like I said - the guy was a good bloke, we just didnt get along.

And we hadnt even started talking about Global Warming, 911, The Money System, Hawkeye .... was a good idea for him to give me the flick smile.gif

Two Dogs,

I am very disappointed. This job seemd to have 'book deal' written all over it. It could have been the male version of "The Devil Wears Prada" and I could have made my girlfriend sit through the movie version..

I feel ashamed. Just saw my chance for the big time slip through my fingers ... then with the profits I could have revealed the truth about the fascist right and their proliferation of falsities and their ongoing quest to kill all fluffy animals and leave the world to burn in its own self induced melting pot. I could have been a poster boy for my brothers and sisters of the righteous left, we could have taken our means of production and shoved it right up their collective chocolate starfish ... damn.

Was at HOG at lunchtime and saw an absolute bullshit fest.

Joe "Spazzy" Citizen was on the launch monitor testing drivers and lying cnut salesguy was sitting there giving him the running commentary on his swings. Spazzy had a swing worse than Postie. Very ordinary flat-footed swing with no rotation and was all arms & hands.

I wandered past the putter area in time to hear....

"Oh, you nailed that one. Launch angle of 15° and driver swing speed of 108mph. That has carried 220 with another 20 roll".

blink.gif

Next swing

"Mate, you smashed that one. Launch angle of 18°, ball spin right down and a driver swing speed of 112mph. That one has flown over 240 dead straight and rolled another 20."

blink.gif blink.gif

I didn't bother to wait for the commentary on the next swing.

Sales dude could not have seriously believed the bullshit he was reading out (and he did a great job of not laughing either).

I realise that I am not a launch monitor but I am fairly confident that Spazzy's flail at the ball would not generate the announced results.

They tweak everything on those systems to generate bullshit.

I found it strange that the truth never seemed to be of importance, but then if you are hitting your current driver (3 months old) as good as the new one on offer .. .why would you buy it? You don't see a lot of people bring in the old driver and honestly compare, even if they did the results need interpreting which allows the salesman to spin his crap all over again.

The problem comes when a customer that has been bullshitted to previously, needs super-bullshit to upgrade ... "yep, 350 metres carry and 6 inches of draw ... not bad."

Its the choice the golf equipment industry have made - to sell bigger - longer - further as your reason to buy. Hell, the manager at the store I was at was using distance as a reason to sell irons??? What the hell?? Why do I want to hit my 8 iron further?
